To blog or not to blog that was the
question, here is the answer... for now I choose to blog in the hope that it'll be fun, I hope you have some too...
Here goes... my first blog a list of
Bollywood movies that thrilled me during 2015, I was hoping to start with a Top
10 but I only got up to 8, doesn’t really matter though as 8 is enough, had I
watched Talvar I’d probably have got up to 9 and I should really make a point
of watching Bahubali which I see is on DStv as that might allow me to round it off
perfectly.
Never mind, moving on…
For me the best thing in this digital age
is how good movies look and sound in the movies… even after all these years
when the theatre lights go out and the screen lights up and anticipation
reaches fever pitch; that right there sums up what I call the magic of the
movies!
My 3 BEST MOVIES (in order of release):
Piku – because when you got to go you got to go. Although when
it comes to letting go, one has to wait for the right moment to do so…
Bajrangi Bhaijaan – because when it comes to tolerance; politicians
please note… actions speak louder than words.
Bajirao Mastani – because love has no limits, it knows no fear for
where there is fear, how can love even begin to exist?
I also liked:
Dum Laga Ke Haisha – because love is blind and comes in all sizes, but
sweet sugar dumpling let me tell you something, it’s up to us to find the right
fit.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns – because if madness is the true measure of love, the
crazier it gets the better.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshi – because films like these, where the flicker of
brilliance still glows in and amidst the darkness, is a rarity to be treasured.
Dil Dhadakne Do – because if you want clear concise logic, best you
look to your dog to provide the answers
Tamasha – because unless you can be true to yourself, forget
about being true to anyone else.
My 3 BEST PERFORMANCES MALE: Amitabh Bachchan (Piku), Salman Khan (BB),
Ranveer Singh (BM)… an acknowledgement to Bollywood’s past, its present
and its future.
My 3 BEST PERFORMANCES FEMALE: Deepika Padukone (Piku), Kangana Ranaut (TWMR)
and I’m afraid separating Deepika Padukone/Priyanka Chopra in BM is impossible but why should I? The only way I could is if I hosted my own awards show, then the one who arrives
and does a dance item would win because that is how it works in Bollywood. And
if they both arrived to do a Pinga,
then one would get Best Female Actor and the other Best Actor in a Female role,
it’s called spreading the joy.
Seeing as it’s the season to be silly and
in keeping with that spirit here are some other nods of acknowledgement...
My MOST
CUTTING EDGE THING OUT OF INDIA IN 2015: S%&# yaar that’s easy - the AIB Roast. Rude, robust, riveting. It
was banned, reason enough to search it out.
My VERSION OF 50 SHADES - to the most famous trio of 50 year olds in filmdom: Aamir / SRK and Salman Bhai –
who needs a Christian Grey when you have three Muslim Greys?! Together that’s
150 years of memories rolled into one, it’s like watching Pele, Maradona, Messi
and Ronaldo all playing at the same time. Make the most of it, these are
wonderful times.
My MONOPOLY MOMENT OF THE YEAR: Salman Khan producing his “get out of jail card”. Now Bhai get an Uber,
go back to begin and collect your 200 crore!
My COMEBACK QUEENS: Aishwarya
Rai Bachchan and Kajol two actresses who showed that reproducing in real life
shouldn’t prevent you from reproducing on the silver screen.
And My WORLD DOMINATION: nod goes to Priyanka Chopa, although Irfan Khan
has given her a run for her money, but Miss Piggy Chops has taken over the
world in more ways than just movies. From Bollywood to Hollywood she really is
an all-time Miss World.
That was 2015 for me, I’m sure 2016 won’t disappoint, in the
crazy, creative, complex but utterly cool world of movies, it rarely ever does.
Happy New Year - may yours be better than that easily forgettable movie.

And now for my disclaimer: I had fun writing this hope you had fun reading it.
T's and C's apply - just haven't worked out what they are as yet!.

If Bollywood fliks give us escapism and hope of unconditional love then Docky gives cinema meaning. I'm thrilled that you sharing. You have given 50 shades the sexiness it was lacking. #dockyMustWrite
Please come back dear Docky. Come back and save us from the utterly mediocre thrash that we have to contend with, all in the name of journalism. I have been a proud huge fan since Radio Lotus days and continue to absorb your imparted gems of Bollywood knowledge with passion and a continued sense of pride, proud in the knowledge that I have been blessed and privileged to have inter-acted with a legend in his field. For the love of cinema - AA AB LAUT CHALE.
You led the way Majid, you paved it, I simply followed, we share a passion, we only want what's best, that's who we are, that's what we do.
If it has no meaning, it is just a pastime and my problem is I don't know what that means, so this feels like fun Fatzzz, and it feels good
Hello Docky please can you rate your movies out of 10 like you used to do in the Sunday Times.
